Sri Lanka which showed a hard stick towards the Eelam demands had downright suppressed the movement spearheaded by LTTE way back in 2009. but on Wednesday the President of the island nation sent out signals that the separatist elements are still living. He drew evidence from the fact that a meeting in this regards was held in Chennai. He also urged that people of the entire island nation must unite to see that the separatist forces do not take the upper hands.
Indirectly the President remarked the leader of the Left Front Wickremabahu Karunaratne for attending the DMK called TESO conference. He added that patriotic Lankans must unite. Such people would never go overseas to criticize the government.
On the other hand, the DMK chief Karunanidhi's attempts to revive the defunct TESO had faced a major hurdle as the Chennai Police had denied it permission for a public meeting in the city. In the meantime DMK organized the convention in a private hotel. During the convention, the DMK Chief Karunanidhi said that the Sri Lankan army was continuing a state of emergency in Tamil areas, ever since the UN resolution was announced. Hence the Chief requested UN to have a look at the issues. This was the first time that the party made an appeal to the international monitoring agency. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
